Crazy Train Intro by Ozzy
Welcome and Encourage
Psalm 23 ESV
A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Prayer
Father, it is never easy to get through a day like today. And yet your word tells us that ‘we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.’
Today we are facing the reality of how short and fleeting life can be. Lord, help us all to find our strength and our comfort in you, and find great amounts of joy in the memories.
In Jesus’ name, amen.

Message

It’s difficult to capture - in a few minutes - the greatness of someone’s life.
It’s difficult to capture - in a few minutes - the greatness of someone’s life.
Those are the precious memories that will carry you as you remember Ed’s life.
You’ve all done that well today. These are the precious memories that will carry you as you remember Ed’s life.
That’s one of the many great gifts God gives us - the gift of remembering. Today that’s what we’re here to do - to remember and celebrate Ed’s life.
As we celebrate I’d like to offer some encouragement for each of you.
A little girl fell down on the sidewalk and skinned her knee. She said to her mother, “Wouldn’t it be great if the whole world were cushioned?”
Closing Prayer
Unfortunately our world can be hard, like a rough sidewalk. Sometimes life does more than skin our knees though, it breaks our hearts. It leaves us numb and wondering, “Why, God?”
God wants to comfort us when we hurt.
says, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
When we suffer the pain of loss, God can bind our wounds and reassure us it will be all right. Reassure us that we’re going to make it through.
How can we find God’s comfort?
In , the writer Paul tells us that God is “the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
God is the God of all comfort.
There is no real comfort apart from God. At times nothing will console my 2 year old son except for his mother. I can distract him, but after the distraction, he cries for his Mom again. This is also true of God. He is the source of real comfort. We may find distractions, but nothing brings lasting comfort except for him.
This is why we look to God in times of sorrow. People try to find comfort elsewhere, but nothing other than God is only a distraction. I encourage you to turn to God to bind your broken heart.
God comforts us in all our trouble.
The Bible says he is faithful in all our troubles. And All means All. tells us, “But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.”
In 1992 Olympic Games, Derek Redmond was favored to win a race. As he turned for the homestretch he tore his crucial ligament and began to limp. A man fought his way onto the track , through his arms around Redmond and helped him finish. It was his father.
God rushes to our side to help us through sorrow. He comforts us in all our troubles. encourages us, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.”
God is the source of all comfort and God comforts us in all our troubles.
God comforts us so we can comfort others
,“the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
It is comforting to know that God can use our experience to help others. God never wastes a hurt.
Uncle Gary - Letter from the business to customers
This world is not all cushioned and we may not every fully understand why. But we can focus on the great memories, and look for places where Ed’s life has made a difference in our lives.
Jesus
I know it’s never easy to get through days like these, but God can comfort you if you reach out to him.
Jesus said in
John 3:16 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16–17 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
